Middletown, N.Y. (February 26, 2013) – Just in time for the winter season, PAYLESS GIVES™ Shoes 4 Kids selected the Boys and Girls Clubs of Town of Wallkill as a charity partner and on February 16, 2013, the Clubs helped fit 200 Club kids and their siblings with brand new sneakers and boots.
“As families make the impossible decision between paying for home heating oil or dinner for their children, new clothes and shoes don’t often make the list. To see a child’s face light up with the gift of something new, shiny and all theirs is truly indescribable, and we are proud to have worked with PAYLESS GIVES to make this possible for so many of our Club kids and their families,” said Executive Director Alexis Eggleton.
The Payless Shoe Store in Orange Plaza in Middletown welcomed as many Club kids as were able to attend, and Boys & Girls Clubs staff also selected 100+ pairs of shoes for Club kids who had no transportation or were otherwise unable to attend.
Families were very grateful for the opportunity to get their children new shoes. One parent said, “I am so grateful to be a part of such an amazing club. Not only does the Boys & Girls Club take care of the wellbeing of my child, they have shown in so many ways how much they care and look at us as family.”
This is the fifth year of the PAYLESS GIVES™ Shoes 4 Kids program. Although studies show that properly fitting shoes are important for children’s health and development, a striking number of children in the Hudson Valley do not own a pair of shoes that fit. By helping families who struggle to provide their children with basic essentials on a daily basis, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Town of Wallkill, in partnering with the PAYLESS GIVES™ Shoes 4 Kids program, hopes to relieve some of the stress parents are feeling during this winter season and bring joy to as many children as possible.
