Forty Local Celebrity Servers Make This Dinner Biggest Event Yet!
The Boys & Girls Clubs raised $28,000 at their sold-out 2nd Annual Orange County Celebrity Dinner at Kuhl’s Highland House on Friday, April 20, 2012.
This year’s theme was “TV Shows From My Childhood” and the forty local celebrities who formed this year’s teams decorated their tables and dressed in costume according to themes like “Sonny & Cher,” “I Love Lucy” and “The Addams Family” to serve the 320 guests who attended the event and to compete in the annual “Tip Challenge.”
Honorary Event Chairman Dan Depew said, “I am overwhelmed with the generosity of all those in our communities who have stepped up to donate to this phenomenal cause!”
The Celebrity Servers also challenged one another and accepted challenges from the audience for skits, sing-a-longs and stunts. Walden Savings Bank’s Derrik Wynkoop and Marcia Jacobowitz-Paz from Jacobowitz and Gubitz performed a duet of “I Got You, Babe” while Focus Media’s Josh Sommers and Karen Minogue of the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan led Celebrity Servers and Club Board members in a rendition of the “Grease MegaMix.” Depew raised $301 to shave his trademark beard, and another $100 to allow Orange Regional Medical Center’s Jonnie Wesley-Krueger to shave it off live during the event!
In the end, “The Justice League” team of Chris Masters, Joanna Greenwald, Judy Annunziata and Nikki Regina took home the Tip Challenge victory, netting more than $4700 in tips!
Nub from Nub Grafix and partner Mike Bliss received second place for their “The Gong Show” team, who raised just $17 less, and featured a six-foot gong that guests could ring for $5, or silence for more money!
Third place went to the “Home Improvement” team of Town of Wallkill Councilmen Dan Tulp and Ralph Carr, with Kristina LeHane and Chrissy Terwilliger, who raised $2600 at their tables.
Alexis Eggleton, Executive Director for the Town of Wallkill Boys & Girls Clubs said, “We are so proud of the efforts of our Celebrity Servers, who give generously of their time and talents. They completely exceeded every expectation, and helped ensure safe, supervised programs for our Orange County Club kids. We’re so grateful!”
