Let me preface this blog by saying that, on behalf of our Board of Directors and staff members, our hearts go out to the victims of the Newtown, CT tragedy. Our hearts are with the victims’ families during this time.
The holiday season is upon us and as always we are delighted to spend time with our Club kids. There were the usual holiday-themed snacks, games and activities at program, but our Office Elves… I mean our Unit Directors… have been hard at work to bring hope and make the season bright for more of our Club kids who need it.
They have identified Club kids and their families who might need a little extra help this holiday season, and we’ve got some GREAT friends in the community who are helping with gifts, meals and much more:
The Orange County Bicycle Club has generously donated five new bicycles, with helmets, for youth in our Circleville and Pine Bush programs. These top-of-the-line bikes will help our Club kids stay fit and active when they’re home!
Our long-time supporters at Revere Smelting and Refinery are once again adopting families. This year they’ve adopted an elementary-aged Club kid in Circleville and her single mom, and a middle school-aged Club teen in Pine Bush, and her single dad. In both families, the single parents work very hard to provide for their children, and hopefully our friends at RSR will help make their holiday a little more fun!
Recently we have begun a national partnership between BGCA and Toyota, and the local Toyota Financial Services office in Middletown will be providing $1500 worth of gifts for children in need in Sullivan & Orange Counties.
As our way of giving back to our Club families, every program stayed open until 8pm next Friday, December 14, 2012 and we had holiday movies, activities and dinner for all Club kids. Our friends from Toyota were on hand in Orange County to help spread the holiday cheer!
And our Club kids in Sullivan County have really gotten into the holiday spirit- raising $175 towards a $250 donation to Sullivan County CASA, to help provide a Christmas tree, decorations and gifts to a family in need in Sullivan County. We were so proud of their efforts- baking cookies, making soup and chili for others to purchase, and for their generosity in giving back to others in need.
From all of us to all of you, Happy Holidays!
