As you aware, budgetary restraints eliminated Pine Bush's modified sports program for the 2010-2011 School Year. As longstanding partners in the community who are focused on youth development, Boys & Girls Clubs wanted to help and were selected by the Board of Education in July to offer an Intramural Sports program for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, at both Circleville Middle School and Crispell Middle School.

We believe there are four ways youth can benefit from a Boys & Girls Clubs Intramural Program:

  • FUN. The youth need a safe, fun place to go where they can still be "kids” while engaging in competitive team sports.
  • SKILLS ACQUISITION. Critical time will not be lost. Youth will continue to be coached by qualified staff, assisting them as they begin or continue to develop the athletic skills required at the next level of competitive sports.
  • LIFE SKILLS. The effects of our character and leadership development and teambuilding exercises last long after the season has ended.
  • PLAY FOR ALL. We made the decision to not only include 6th grade students in need of recreation activities, but to eliminate "cutting” youth from the program, to encourage all youth to participate in recreation sports and stay active.
We have designed a three-season, ten weeks per season schedule, modeled after the modified sports program. We offer a three-day per week, (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) practice schedule to allow the youth time to also focus on their academics. Within each season, we are providing two single-gender sports, as well as a co-ed sport. This Fall 2010, we are offering the following Intramural Sports Programs:

Girls Soccer
Five person teams will compete in half-field, tournament-style play over the ten week season, culminating with a Saturday "World Cup” competition between the Divisions.
Skills Acquisition for This Sport Include: improved endurance and physical conditioning, improved foot skills, "specialized” skills including throw-ins, heading and penalty kicks, and a demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations.

Boys Soccer
Five person teams will compete in half-field, tournament-style play over the ten week season, culminating with a Saturday "World Cup” competition between the Divisions.
Skills Acquisition for This Sport Include: improved endurance and physical conditioning, improved foot skills, "specialized” skills including throw-ins, heading and penalty kicks, and a demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations.

Co-Ed Volleyball

Because Boys & Girls Clubs is committed to providing this opportunity for Pine Bush youth, we are offering these programs at $110 per season, or $330 per year. This fee can be paid at the onset of every season, on a monthly basis (with initial deposit) or your child can choose to participate in our Good Clean Funds fundraiser, with 30% of your child's sales going to offset his/her fee.
