Students Participate in Annual Fundraiser for American Cancer Society
The Club kids at the RJK Middle School Boys & Girls Clubs raised nearly $700 for the Sullivan County Relay for Life held on June 2, 2012.
The Club kids set up a table at the event to sell fresh fruit cups to promote a healthy lifestyle and healthy eating choices, lessons they learned at the Boys & Girls Clubs. Guest speakers who were affected by cancer visited the Club kids throughout the year and shared their stories and triumphs, which inspired the Club kids to get involved in the Relay.
“We are always delighted to have guest speakers come to the Clubs, and to see the personal investment these Club kids made in the Relay efforts was heartwarming,” said BGC Executive Director Alexis Eggleton.
In addition to the fruit cup sale, the Club kids also provided face painting and temporary tattoos for other kids in attendance, and helped with a small penny social to add to their funds.
