The Town of Wallkill Boys and Girls Club’s (BGC) 2013 “Giving Tree” gift drive was an enormous success. Hundreds of volunteers donated, collected, wrapped and distributed gifts to more than 500 children in five counties during the holiday season. “We are so grateful for the incredible support we received for this project,” said BGC Executive Director Alexis Eggleton. “We may think we gave large numbers of gifts to children in need this year, but their smiles gave us so much more.”
Among the most notable personalities coming forward to support the 2013 “Giving Tree” project was Sullivan County native Josh Murphy, who hosted a star-studded gift drive at the historic Bulls Head Tavern in New York City. Celebrities who stopped by to donate toys and clothing for BGC kids included MTV personalities Kenny Santucci and Evan Starkman, famed boxing coach Willie Classen, boxing champions Frank “Notorious” Galarza, Ronica “Queen” Jeffrey, and Melissa St. Vil; Carole Radziwill of the hit show “Real Housewives of New York City” and the popular comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
Josh, who grew up in Callicoon, NY and now serves as General Manager for the exclusive New York Health & Racquet Club, said “I am proud to be from Sullivan County and will never forget where I came from. We didn’t have a BGC when I was growing up and I’m happy this fantastic organization is providing our children back home with safe and fun environments in which to spend their time. This project gave me the opportunity to give back and I hope the 200 presents we donated made the holidays fun for lots of Club kids.”
